8 years / 8 jaar

One of the art journal pages I recently made was to celebrate the eight years we have been together as a couple. We celebrated 3,5 years of marriage last month and later this year we will have known each other for 20 years! Here's to love and friendship!

Eén van de art journal pagina die ik recent heb gemaakt gaat over het vieren van de achtste verjaardag van onze relatie. We waren vorige maand 3,5 jaar getrouwd en kennen elkaar later dit jaar 20 jaar. Liefde en vriendschap!

Local Elections / Gemeenteraadsverkiezingen

Yesterday there were elections for the local councils almost everywhere in the Netherlands. I went to vote but according to the most important national news institution Only 47% of the inhabitants of Zoetermeer allowed to vote did so. The website of the city council mentiones 50,6%. I understand some peoples health get in the way. I understand some people don't understand the language well enough to understand how the elections work. I understand that not everyone understands politics. But I'm afraid a large part of non-voters didn't vote because they were just not interested or desillusioned. I don't have much to expect from politics and I have no illusions about the amount of influence I have. But isn't the tiny little bit of influence I have better than non at all? Democracy is something of high value and I see voting as a moral duty. How many people in the world wouldn't give a lot to have that little bit of influence? How many people didn't give their lives so that we can live in a democracy? It's not ideal but much better than the dictatorial regime we would probably have had if Hitler or Stalin got things his way. So here's my plea to VOTE whenever you have the chance! Our national cabinet recently had to resign and we will have national elections in a couple of months. The Netherlands has a system with many political parties. This often makes it difficult to form a coalition with many parties with different ideas, but at the same time this way almost everyone can find a party that represents their ideals to vote on. Anyway, I'm happy that GroenLinks, the party I voted for this time (I don't always vote for the same party but always leftwing) has gained a second seat in the city council.

De uitslag van de gemeenteraadsverkiezing is er. En daarmee ook opkomstcijfers. Volgens de NOS had Zoetermeer op opkomst van 47%, volgens de site die de gemeente Zoetermeer voor de uitslag heeft opgezet is dat 50,6%. Onbegrijpelijk. Ik snap dat sommige mensen niet gaan stemmen vanwege gezondheidsomstandigheden. Ik snap dat sommige mensen de taal nog niet goed genoeg beheersen om de stemprocedure te begrijpen. I snap dat sommige mensen geen verstand hebben van politiek. Maar ik vrees dat een flink deel van de niet-stemmers dit doet uit desinteresse of desillusie. Ik heb weinig verwachtingen van de politiek en maak me geen illusies over de invloed die ik heb. Maar een héél klein beetje invloed is toch beter dan niks? Democratie is een groot goed en ik zie het als een morele plicht om te gaan stemmen. Hoeveel mensen in de wereld zouden niet heel wat overhebben voor dat kleine beetje invloed? Hoeveel mensen hebben hun leven niet gegeven om ervoor te zorgen dat we hier in een parlementaire democratie kunnen leven? Er valt heel wat aan te merken op onze staatsvorm maar deze valt ruimschoots te verkiezen boven de dictatuur die we hier anders waarschijnlijk hadden gehad als Hitler of Stalin zijn gang had kunnen gaan. Bij deze dus mijn pleidooi om vooral te gaan stemmen bij de landelijke verkiezingen!

Losstaand hiervan ben ik blij dat de partij waar ik deze keer op heb gestemd (ik ben een 'links zwevende' kiezer ;-) ) er een zetel bij heeft in de Zoetermeerse gemeenteraad:

Donderdagmiddag 4 maart maakte burgemeester Waaijer de einduitslag bekend. Hoewel was ingezet op veel meer zetels, is GroenLinks Zoetermeer tevreden met het resultaat: geen enkele andere linkse partij wist winst te behalen in Zoetermeer.

Gothic and Fantasy market / Gothic en Fantasy beurs

On February 21 Wilma and I went to the Gothic and Fantasy market in Rijswijk. We saw some pretty cool costumes and things, and listened to a performance by Rapalje. Wilma bought a bag and some things we can use for a new costume for me to wear to the Elf Fantasy Fair next April.

Op 21 februari bezocht ik met Wilma de Gothic en Fantasy beurs in Rijswijk. We zagen wat mooie kostuums en leuke spullen en hoorden Rapalje optreden. Wilma kocht een tas en wat dingen die we kunnen gebruiken voor een nieuw kostuum voor mij voor de Elf Fantasy Fair in april.

IrfanView

I have this fancy photo editing program but most of the time I use Irfan View. It's free and it allows me to do most of the editing I want. I use it every day to reduce the size of photo's before I upload them to my blog. I use it to crop photo's. I use it if I want to blur faces on photo's before uploading them to my blog. And I use it to convert colour photo's to black and white, like I did here. Our small digital camera has the option of taking b/w photo's but I never use that options, it's just as easy to convert them afterwards and I can still keep the colour version!

Ik heb een luxe fotobewerkingsprogramma maar meestal gebruik ik Irfan View. Het is gratis en ik kan er de meeste bewerkingen die ik wil mee uitvoeren. Ik gebruik het elke dag om foto's kleiner te maken voor ik ze op m'n blog post. Ik gebruik het om selecties uit foto's te halen. Ik gebruik het als ik gezichten onherkenbaar wil maken voor ik een foto op m'n blog zet. En ik gebruik het om kleurenfoto's om te zetten naar zwart wit, zoals ik hier gedaan heb. Onze kleine digitale camera heeft de mogelijkhied om z/w foto's te maken maar die optie gebruik ik nooit, het is net zo makkelijk om het later even aan te passen en dan heb ik de foto ook in kleur!

A day / Een dag in Arnhem

On February 20 we spent the day in Arnhem. We started with a visit to the local history museum. There was an interesting exhibition about the river IJssel, on which we had a boat tour last summer, and we learned about the history of Arnhem.

20 februari brachten we door in Arnhem. We begonnen met een bezoek aan het Historisch Museum Anrhem. Er was een interessante tentoonstelling over de IJssel, leuk om te zien met onze vaartocht over de IJssel van vorige zomer nog vers in het geheugen. Verder leerden we over de locale geschiedenis.

After that we met up with M&J for a walk in Park Sonsbeek.

Daarna wandelden we met M&J in Park Sonsbeek.

The four of us ate in a restaurant, unfortunately it was too dark for photo's inside, otherwise I could have shown you my salad with goat cheese and raspberry dressing, my guineafowl with bacon and my crème brûlée.

We gingen met ons vieren uit eten, helaas was het binnen te donker om te fotograferen, anders had ik jullie m'n salade met geitenkaas en frambozendressing, m'n parelhoen met spel en m'n crème brûlée kunnen laten zien.

Mini for/voor Maarten

I made Maarten a mini album for our 3,5 year wedding anniversary, using magazineclippings. I took the photo's before adding some personal writing.

Ik maakte voor Maarten een mini album omdat we 3,5 jaar getrouwd waren, waarbij ik gebruik maakte van foto's die ik uit tijdschriften had geknipt. Na het maken van deze foto's voegde ik nog persoonlijke tekst toe.

EntreArtiste Magazine

I recently subscribed to EntreArtistes Magazine, and I'm happy I did! I do need a dictionary to read it, hopefully this will inspire my scrapping and art journalling AND help me improve my French!

I heb pas een abonnement genomen op EntreArtistes Magazine, en ik ben blij dat ik dat gedaan heb! Ik heb wel een woordenboek nodig om het te kunnen lezen, hopelijk inspireert dit me bij het scrappen en art journallen EN helpt het me m'n Frans op te halen!
