Duitsland / Germany 20-6-2007

Op woensdag 20 juni maakten we een rondvaart door de havens van Duisburg, waarbij we ook een stukje Rijn meepakten. Niet echt een mooie tocht maar wel interessant, ook dit heeft immers te maken met de Rijn en de economische mogelijkheden die de rivier biedt. Verder liepen we wat door het centrum. Mijn meegenomen boek was bijna uit dus zochten we de grootste boekwinkel die we konden vinden op. Het aanbod Engels was beperkt (geen NL) en bestond grotendeels uit thrilers en chicklit, geen van beide mijn ding. Ik vond 'the time travellers wife' van Audrey Niffenegger, echt een aanrader! Ik had gelezen over een museum dat onvindbaar bleek. Wel was er op die plek een park met leuk straatmeubilair: grote stoelen die los stonden. Je zag dan ook veel parkbezoekers slepen met de stoelen naar een plekje naar hun zin. 's avonds wilden we uit eten. Ik had op internet 2 Indiase restaurants gevonden. Het 1e bleek pas geleden gesloten. Het 2e bleek meer een Indiase snackbar te zijn, dat was niet wat we zochten. Het Italiaanse restaurant waarvoor onlangs nog maffiamoorden gepleegd werden verwierpen we als te duur. In het centrum vonden we wel een betaalbare Italiaan en na wat lekkere pizza's en gegrillde groenten sleepten we nog even met straatmeubilair in het park.

Wednesday June 20 we had a boat-tour trough the harbours of Duisburg, and a little part of the Rhine. Not a very beautifull tour but quite interesting, because it is a Rhine-harbour and shows the economical possibilities the river offers. We also walked trough the towncenter. I had almost finished the book I brought with me so we visited the largest bookstore we could find. They only had a limited English collection (no Dutch at all), containing mostly thrillers and chick-lit, neither of which is my cup of tea. What I did found was 'the time travellers wife' by Audrey Niffenegger, a definite must-read! I had read about a museum that appeared to be unfindable. We did find a park on the spot where it should have been, with funny benches; they weren't attached to anything so we saw people tagging them along to whatever place they liked. In the evening we wanted to go out for dinner. I had found 2 Indian restaurants on the web. The first was recently shut down. The 2nd looked more like a fast-food restaurant, that wasn't what we were looking for. We figured the Italian restaurant we passed (the one where those maffia-murders happened recently) would be too expensive. In the towncenter we found an Italian restaurant which had the right prices and after some good pizza's and grilled veggies we spent some time carrying benches around in the park
