Duitsland / Germany 17-6-2007

De 2e helft van juni brachten we door in het Duitse Ruhr-gebied. Dat klinkt niet echt als een leuke vakantiebestemming maar er is veel meer te zien dan industrie alleen. We hadden echt ongelooflijk veel pech, zoals bijv. met het weer. Hij komt dus niet in onze top tien van leukste vakanties maar wel hebben toch wel wat leuke dingen gezien en gedaan.
Op zondag 17 juni reisden we per trein naar Duisburg, waar we de eerste tien dagen verbleven. Daar bezochten we het Landschaftspark Duisburg Nord. Een industriegebied dat niet meer als zodanig in gebruik is en waar de natuur het langzaam overneemt, dit geeft een heel aparte sfeer.
We wandelden door het park en beklommen de hoogoven. Dat was nog een hele klim. Ik heb niet snel last van hoogtevrees maar om naar 60 meter hoogte te klimmen op de trappen die buiten het bouwwerk langs liepen en waar het open was tussen de treden... Het uitzicht was het echter meer dan waard!

We've spend the 2nd half of June in the German Ruhr-area. That doesn't sound like a nice holiday-destination but there's a lot more to it that industry alone. We had an unbelievable amount of bad luck, like the weather for instance. So it won't make it into our top 10 of greatest trips ever but never the less we did see and do some things we liked.
On Sunday june 17 we travelled by train to Duisburg, where we would stay for the first ten days. There we visited the Landschaftspark Duisburg Nord. An Industrial area that's no longer being used as such so now nature is slowly taking over, which makes for a special atmosphere.
We walked trough the park and climbed the steel plant. That was quite a hight to climb. I'm not afraid of hights usually, but to climb to a hight of 60 meters on stairs that go outside and around the building with openings between the steps... The view was definitely worth it though!
