In March...Roeland and I had dinner together at his place (I hadn't cuddled with poes Poes for a while and had to catch up!) and went to see 'Francofonia' at the Filmhuis in The Hague. It's a Russian art house-movie on the Louvre in WW2. A bit... strange, but I learned a thing or two about the history of the Louvre.
I had dinner with Maarten at the beginning and at the end of the month. We celebrated Fred's 70th birthday with a high tea. Wilma had bought a lot of stuff and made cheese cake. I baked banana-walnut cupcakes and an apple cake. All gluten free.
Bram and I went to see 'An' at the cinema. Not surprisingly, we craved something pancake-like afterwards, so we made poffertjes (a sort of tiny pancakes).
Bram and I visited Haarlem. We saw several small exhibitions at the Frans Hals Museum and spent some time at a board game store, where Bram spent gift cards he was given last year. After dinner, back in Leiden, we played one of the games, Machi Koro. It was fun! Bram won. But I've beaten him at this fun game several times since ;-) I attended the monthly cinema night in Den Haag. I joined Bas, Frank and Heleen for drinks. Later, Kimberly joined us and we went to see 'The Revenant'. A grunting DiCaprio. Not really my kind of thing.
Bram and I went to the beach at Noordwijk. It was sunny and it started to feel like spring. We met up with Bram's parents for drinks, and they treated us to dinner at De Gouden Leeuw. If you ever consider ordering hot chocolate there: don't. But the food was fine and they did a great job taking care of my gluten free meal.
On a Sunday, Bram and I set out for Den Bosch by train. Along the way we were joined by Roeland, then Bob, and then Geralde. In Den Bosch we walked to the Noordbrabants Museum, where we went to see the exhibition on Jheronimus Bosch. Mark joined us a little later. Afterwards, Geralde, Bob, Bram and I walked around Den Bosch for a while and then had dinner in Utrecht. Another dinner with Roeland and poes Poes. She was delighted that we ate chicken. I met up with Marcel and Marloes at Marcel's place to watch a movie. We saw 'The straight story'. It was all right, but not as good as we had hoped, pretty sentimental. Bram and I visited the Fotomuseum in Rotterdam. There were several exhibitions, some more appealing than others. I attended a study meeting in Amsterdam, about literature and different entry points for research into literary texts. It was for 'Cultuurwetenschappelijke Vaardigheden 2'. The assignment was to study a poem by Willem Elsschot and texts about Elsschot and his work, as well as a short story by Willem Frederik Hermans. It was the day of the terrorist bombings in Brussels, and we discussed that too. Bankrupt department store V&D has started final sales. It was crazy busy and there have even been a few reports of people fighting over items. Yikes. Bram and I visited V&D Leiden on the second day of the sale, and it wasn't thát bad. There was no line outside, and the check-out line wait was about 35 minutes. My main score were pages and folders for my photo albums. I use those a lot so I would have had to buy them anyway at some point, and there was a pretty good discount. We also found craft supplies and some sweaters for Bram.
We had planned to go up north the day before easter. We would visit the Fries Museum and meet up with FrankM, Nicolette and Danja to (belatedly) celebrate FrankM's birthday. But when I was hunting for an insect I jumped in an attempt to reach it, and when I landed my ankle folded under me. That was the end of that plan. The insect got away unscratched. Were the gods teaching me it's bad karma to hunt insects? ;-) On easter day Bram and I had easter breakfast. I made myself gluten free pancakes. Later that day we met up with Bram's parents, Bram's sister and her partner and son, at Bram's parent's place. We hunted for eggs and got fed a lot of snacks and a nice dinner.
On 'second easter day' we visited my grandparents at their house, where we met up with FrankM, Nicolette and Danja after all, and with my aunt and her partner.
