Eng(e)land 2-10Op 2 oktober bezochten we het plaatsje Battle. Wie een beetje op de hoogte is van de geschiedenis van Groot Brittannië heeft vast wel gehoord van de Battle of Hastings (slag bij Hastings) in 1066. Die vond niet in Hastings zelf plaats maar op een plek in de omgeving die later de toepasselijke naam Battle kreeg. Op de plek waar William de slag won van Harold liet hij een klooster bouwen. De resten van dit klooster zijn nu te bezoeken, en we maakten een audiotour rond het slagveld. De rest van het dorp is ook wel leuk.On October 2 we visited Battle. Whoever knows a little about Britain's history has certainly heard about the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The battle didn't take place in Hastings itself but somewhere nearby, this place was later given the very appropriate name of Battle. On the spot where he won the battle, William, Duke of Normandy, had an abbey built. De remains of this abbey can be visited, and we did an audiotour around the battlefield. The rest of the villiage is also quite nice.
