London 31-3-2011

On March 31 we travelled to London by train, with a lunchbreak in Brussels.

Op 31 maart reisden we per trein naar Londen, met lunchpauze in Brussel.

I got my very own Oyster Card for public transportation (yay!) and then we split up: Maarten went to check into the hotel and travel around the city for a while, whilst I indulged in my beloved Paperchase and Foyles. I behaved myself well though and only bought a postcard.

Ik kreeg mijn eigen Oystercard (de Londense OV-chipkaart) en we splitsten op: Maarten ging inchecken bij het hotel en wat rondreizen met het ov, terwijl ik me onderdompelde in m'n geliefde Paperchase en Foyles. Ik gedroeg me echter braaf en kocht alleen een ansicht.

'Our' street. We stayed at Charlotte Guesthouse, it's a bit worn for wear but our room was fine and the location is perfect when it comes to public transport links to the city and St. Pancras. There's a nice street with shops and restaurants around the corner and for that price, I can live with that one downside of not getting fresh towels every day (and since we knew that in advance we just brought some with us so no prolem.) We'll probably stay here again.
'Onze' straat. We verbleven in Charlotte Guesthouse, het is wat sleets maar onze kamer was best en de locatie is perfect wat betreft ov- verbindingen met de stad en St. Pancras. Om de hoek is een aardige straat met winkels en restaurants en voor die prijs doen we niet moeilijk over het feit dat je niet elke dag schone handdoeken krijgt (en aangezien we dat van tevoren wisten hadden we er wat meegebracht dus geen probleem). We zullen hier waarschijnlijk nog wel vaker verblijven.

My main activity for the afternoon was a visit to the British Library. There was an exhibition on the English Language: Evolving English. More about that in a seperate post.

Mijn hoofdactiviteit die middag was een bezoek aan de British Library. Er was een tentoonstelling over de Engelse taal: Evolving English. Meer daarover in een aparte blogpost.

In early evening, we met up again at St. Pancras station and enjoyed the Station Sessions. We heard 'Lucy Rose' and 'I Said Yes' play and had some M&S salads. The sessions were filmed, you can spot us amongst the audience.

Vroeg in de avond zagen we elkaar weer op St. Pancras waar we de Station Sessions bijwoonden. We hoorden 'Lucy Rose' en 'I Said Yes' spelen en aten salades van M&S. De sessies werden gefilmd, je kunt ons in het publiek spotten.
