Hi, my name is Thinkie, welcome to my blog!
I'm a student in cultural studies, a museum enthusiast, a scrapbooker and an art journaler. I love to travel within Europe and I enjoy photography. You can read more about me on my homepage.
And in Dutch I enjoy:
I live, I love, I create, I capture, I learn, I enjoy.
Albums 2010?By the end of 2009 I had it all worked out. I would save time, money and effort by not making scrapbookalbums AND normal photo-albums any longer and use binders made into 12x12-albums as a combination of the two, using different sizes and types of pages and pretty much turning anything and everything into a page using my 4-hole-punch. So now it's February 2011 and I'm almost a year behind when it comes to my albums, stuck in January 2010. What went wrong?!
For starters, I only have photo's printed when they're on sale. I estimate this saves us about a hundred euro's a year, that's a lot of scrapbooksupplies or an extra vacationday. Unfortunately this means I often get the photo's printed months after they were taken. Keeping up in real time isn't realistic because of this, but somehow I didn't do a lot of work on the albums after the photo's came in either. Maybe because it's such a huge workload as suppose to little amounts of photo's coming in often. And it's not as fun to work with photo's taken months ago as it is working with newer photo's.
Also, this type of albums, although more simple than a 'normal' scrapbook album with that many photo's, take more time than a 'normal' photo album. With a normal photo-album, there's very little thinking involved and hardly any creativity, at least nog in the way I make them. I just stick them on pages in a chronological order. With the type of scrapbook/photoalbum combi I'm doing, I have to figure out which photo's I want to scrap and which ones to just stick on a page or put in a page protector. And because I'm using all sorts of pages and page protectors I have to figure out what way to place my photo's and my journalling. There's a lot of creativity and a lot of figuring out. I enjoy that, but lack of time and having to work in a sort of chronological order are making it difficult to keep up.
Where did the energy and time go that might have gone into the photo-albums? I did scrapbook, albeit very little, but mostly on older albums that I wanted to finish and on workshop-projects. I notice I am putting a lot more time and effort into my blog lately, writing more. Maybe I could find a way to combine that effort with doing work for my photo-albums, but I do write differently for one or the other and make a somewhat different selection of photo's and subjects. I have become active on Facebook and spent quite a lot of time on there in the first few months but not too much lately, I think I am finding a balance between the time I put into it and the returns I get in the form of (more) contact with several friends and cousins, I certainly enjoy it (although there are things about facebook I dislike). By the end of 2009 we decided to cut back even more on the amount of photos we would have printed. We did. But I think we took about the same amount of photos over the year (I won't even start to count them but I'm pretty sure we're talking tens of thousands) because of all the fun trips we had, and therefor selecting which ones to print is taking more time than ever. I think I'm succeeding in taking a little less photos of events lately, and am learning to cut down on the amount of photos to select for printing. Maybe it's a matter of getting used to it? I'm sure less travelling as a result of diverting part of our travel budget to my studies will take care of part of that photo-overload, even though the amount of daytrips might increse. But we're sort of struggling with making the cutting back on travelling happen ;-)
Off course there will be less time for photo-albums this year because of my studies, and if things develope as I am hoping they will, this won't change any time soon (if ever). Not sure how I can adapt to that AND keep up with my photo-albums, even though I plan to make sure I have some time left for scrapping. I might need to go back to 'normal' photo-albums with a scrapped page here and there, since they take less time. But for 2011, I have my albums ready to go and I'm going to stick with the formats I have chosen. Now if only I could get some work done on the albums for 2010...
